Our mission is to serve the unmet needs of people experiencing personal crisis or mental health issues and respond with services that promote coping, emotional health and well-being. Our primary service area is Central Alabama, which is defined as the six county area surrounding Birmingham.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) is a national network of over 200 local crisis centers, allowing the Lifeline to provide local resources with innovative best practices and quality care across the United States.
988 is interwoven into the Alabama Crisis System of Care, as the first step and response in a crisis. 988 offers an opportunity to decouple policing from a mental health or substance use crisis. 988 is a vital resource for people experiencing a mental health emergency.

Our 24-hour hotline is answered by trained staff of the Crisis Center and Rape Response program. With each call, the needs of the caller are assessed and appropriate referrals are made. Why should I call Rape Response instead of just going to an emergency room?
