Oceanside is the natural southern port and outlet for San Bernardino, Riverside, San Jacinto, and the rest of the immediate country to the northward. It is also the natural outlet for the fine valley traversed by the Escondido branch of the railway, which embraces Buena, San Marcos and Escondido.
