Jankel's score was the replacement score as shown in the US. Zimmer's score was shown in European prints (much like Goldsmith/Tangerine Dream & Legend). I love this Zimmer score, one of my favorties from him.

I Also liked much better Chaz Jankel´s musical score for this movie, rather than the Hanz Zimmer's one. As a matter of fact, I'd love Chaz Jankel musical score for "K2"!!!
I've been in contact with Mr Jankel & Franc Roddam (Director for K2) Jankel says the masters were recycled (copied over) after the original Dolby score went to dvd. The Zimmerman Score was preferred by the distributors but the director hated the zimmeman score but was forced to release it in the UK & Japan. After release of DVD The Jankel Score

Has anyone ever seen the promo that's floating around out there for Chas Jankel's score to the movie "K2"... not the Hans Zimmer one, that I guess was later re-edited into the film on video (or so i've heard, haven't seen it on video)...
