- Ember Lumen - Leah Lewis. Ember is the leading character of Elemental. She is a fire element whose family immigrated to Elemental City before she was born.
- Wade Ripple - Mamoudou Athie. Wade Ripple is a water elemental who, when the film picks up, is an inspector for Elemental City. As is common with those of his element, he also happens to be very in touch with his emotions, frequently being brought to tears.
- Bernie Lumen - Ronnie Del Carmen. Bernie is Ember’s father, and he runs one of the most popular stores in Fire Town, The Fire Place. After disaster struck, Bernie and his wife Cinder left their native Fire Lands to find a new beginning in Elemental City.
- Cinder Lumen - Shila Ommi. Cinder Lumen is the wife of Bernie who joined him in immigrating to Element City. She’s supportive of her husband’s shop and even runs her own business in the back.

- Leah Lewis as Ember Lumen. Ember is a twenty-something fire element, known for her both quick-witted humor and hot-headed nature at times (no pun intended…ok, maybe a little!).
- Mamoudou Athie as Wade Ripple. Wade is a twenty-something water element, who like Ember, is very close with his family. Unlike her though, he is extremely laid-back, people-friendly, and emotional, though perhaps a bit too much at times.
- Ronnie del Carmen as Bernie Lumen. Bernie is Ember’s father, a fire element who takes great pride in representing his native homeland, Fireland. He, and his wife Cinder, originally moved to Element City looking to start a better life with their daughter.
- Shila Ommi as Cinder Lumen. Cinder is Ember’s mother, and she also plays a significant role in running the family business Fireplace. Like Bernie, she is not amiable towards non-fire elements, with the thinking that no different elements should not mix with one another.
- Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis) Ember, voiced by Leah Lewis, is the daughter of Bernie and Cinder, two Fire people who immigrated to Element City from Fireland.
- Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie) Wade Ripple is an inspector for Element City. He enters The Fireplace through the pipes after searching for the source of a leak in the city since the water was shut off in Firetown a long time ago.
- Gale (Wendi McLendon-Covey) Gale is Wade’s supervisor and a big Windbreakers fan. The Windbreakers are an airball team. Gale makes Ember a deal to try and stop the leak to get her citations forgiven.
- Brook Ripple (Catherine O’Hara) Wade’s mother Brook is an architect. His emotional sensitivity was inherited from her. She encouraged Wade to follow his dreams.
