Our History. Historic Albany Foundation was first created in 1974 to advocate for the preservation of the Center Square and Hudson Park neighborhoods after the construction of Empire State Plaza and Interstate 787. More than 1,500 buildings were demolished for the new construction and a proposed cross town arterial threatened hundreds more.
