Gordon met his first wife, the former Sarah Hildreth Gilmore, at Middlebury College. They married on March 7, 1981, in the Second Congregational Church in Greenfield, Massachusetts, where her parents resided.
Governor Gordon and his wife Jennie have four grown children, Anne, Aaron with wife Megan, Bea with husband Austen, and Spencer with wife Sarah and their son Everett. In October 2019 Jennie launched the Wyoming Hunger Initiative, whose mission is to end childhood hunger in Wyoming.

Her husband Mark grew up on the Gordon Ranch outside of Kaycee, but Jennie isn't from a ranching background. She grew up in Omaha, attended the University of Wyoming, fell in love with the state and stayed.
Dec 19, 2022 · Jennie married Mark, a Buffalo rancher, in 2000, and two years later went to work for the ranch – and that was about the time Mark started making a move into local politics. “Mark was on some of the boards – the school board, the conservation district – just trying to help out our community,” said Jennie.
