Founded in 1977 by English businessman Peter Newton and his Chinese wife Su Hua, Newton was the first newly-developed vineyard on Spring Mountain in California's Napa Valley. The Newtons transformed one square mile of entirely undeveloped rolling hillside into one of Napa Valley's leading estates.
Su Hua Newton still has a very small ownership in the winery. The 560-acre estate is entirely hillside, some of which is quite steep. Because of the size of their property, this is the rare Spring Mountain winery that features such a wide diversity of elevation to farm; the property ranges from 500 to 1,600 feet above sea level.
