Virginia Holton Admiral or Virginia De Niro (February 4, 1915 – July 27, 2000) was an American painter, poet and the mother of actor Robert De Niro. She studied painting under Hans Hofmann in New York, and her work was included in the Peggy Guggenheim collection.

Both a figurative and abstract painter, Admiral drew inspiration from the friends with whom she surrounded herself, pictures from Life magazine, the fruits and vegetables in her kitchen and scenes on the streets of New York south of 14th street, where she lived until her death in 2000.
Virginia Admiral: American artist, poet, independent publisher and activist whose paintings straddled the fields of abstract and figurative art. Part of the New York School of artists in the 1940s and 1950s, her work was shown Peggy Guggenheim’s Art of This Century Gallery in 1942 and the Venice Biennale in 1947.
