ExpressCard/34 is 34mm wide, and (you guessed it) ExpressCard/54 is 54mm wide. Both form factors use the same 26-contact connector, and you can connect ExpressCard/34 devices into either type of ExpressCard slot. Also the Sony Vaio FZ and Vaio Z series have the ExpressCard/34 Slot integrated in them. Sony also uses the ExpressCard/34 form factor for the flash memory modules in its XDCAM EX / SxS based camcorders , making the copying of video data between these cameras and ExpressCard-equipped laptops easier.

Oct 16, 2008 · Level 1. 6 points. What does the ExpressCard/34 slot do? Please give me the for dummies version. I have looked on Wikipedia and other sites. It tells you what it is and the different cards you can get for it but WHAT DOES IT DO? I want to understand what I have on my computer. Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide.

Jan 16, 2009 · The best use I've found for the expresscard/34 slot is a 3G/HSDPA [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA] modem. Unfortunately I haven't found a UK mobile network that are offering these so haven't had a chance to try it out yet but I'd say as soon as one does I'll get 1.8-3.6Mbit Internet everywhere on my MBP and have it basically built-in 🙂
Mar 28, 2023 · In the P200 series, its size is/54, not /34. Since the dissolution of PCMCIA in 2009, notebook computers updated since 2010 usually do not include an ExpressCard slot, except for some business-oriented models (for example, some Lenovo models use it to support smart card readers).
