Rumaan Alam (born 1977) [1] is an American writer. His parents emigrated from Bangladesh to the United States in the early 1970s. Alam, one of four siblings, was born in 1977 and grew up in a suburb of Washington, D.C.
Leave the World Behind is a 2020 novel by Rumaan Alam, published by Ecco. In 2023, the novel was adapted into a feature film by Netflix.

I've also written for the New York Times, the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal, and the New Republic. I studied writing at Oberlin College.
