Sharon passed away in 2014, and Sakai married Julie a year later. Usagi Studios is now a family business. Stan and Julie publish Chibi Usagi under the shared pseudonym JUST Sakai (for JUlie and STan). Emi, Julie's daughter and Stan's colorist, is a professional photographer and also heads up Usagi Studios' merchandising department.
