The European Foundation Centre (EFC) was an international membership association of foundations and corporate funders, based in Philanthropy House, Brussels, Belgium. The organisation was created in 1989 by seven non-profit organisations, in order to support the philanthropic sector in Europe.
Philea came into existence in December 2021, when Dafne and EFC – Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe and the European Foundation Centre – converged to form a strong, united voice for European philanthropy.

The EFC is committed to advance its mission through intervention in four priority areas: creating an enabling legal and fiscal environment for foundations, communicating and documenting European philanthropy, benchmarking, and capacity-building and network-building.
