Sep 30, 2023 · The goal in Hong Kong Mahjong is to build a complete winning hand of 14 tiles. In general, this is formed from 4 sets of three and a single pair. Each player starts the game with 13 tiles, and at the start of each turn, draws a tile, then discarding a tile to the center of the table face up.
Each tile set contains three simple suits (stones, characters, and bamboo), two honor suits (winds and dragons), and one optional suit (flowers). Below, read more about these tile suits as well as their meanings and significance in the game.

Upon start, tiles are turned face down and shuffled, and each of the 4 players builds a wall of 2 tiles high and 17 across (or 18 across is playing with Flowers and Seasons). After that, players combine their walls to form a square like in a picture below.
