Do You Want Kids is the fifth episode in the first season of the Prime Video spy thriller Mr. & Mrs. Smith. It aired with the rest of the season on February 2 in 2024.

For the month of summer, John and Jane plan on spending some quality time together in the gorgeous Lake Como, where they drive cars, dodge bad guys, and chase after slippery Toby, whose naughty criminal ways have put them all in danger.

    The unsafe house

A man takes some pills with water. He then sits down to snort some cocaine, only to be ambushed by two individuals who place a black cloak over his head. He shouts in Italian, but the male individual, John Smith, places a gun against his head, warning him not to move. "You're American?" asks the man. Jane Smith is shown reading the latest directive from Hihi. The directive instructed them to travel to Lake Como, Italy and secure a high-value target, Toby Hellinger. Back at Toby's place, they have now zip-tied his hands. As he continues to struggle, Jane tells him to calm down. He asks who they are and she promises they won't hurt him. He asks if they'll kill him, but she promises they won't hurt him. He asks where they're going, but they tell him they'll move and talk. Jane finishes narrating Hihi's instructions, which are to transport him to a designated safe house and await further instructions. Toby shouts that if they're going to kill him to do it there, that he's pretty much dead already. As they put him in their car, Jane tells him to stop working himself up. She tells him that they're not there to hurt him, but help him. They head off. John comments that the scenery is really beautiful and they should get a place there. Jane protests that he always says that. He protests that he didn't say it when they were in the Somali prison. As they continue to discuss the places they've been, Toby again pleads to know where they're going. Jane tells him they're going someplace safe and John suggests he rest his eyes. Toby notes he can't see anything anyway, asking why he has to wear the hood if they're there to help him. He asks that they please take it off, then shouts and curses, then starts trying to open the door. "Child locks are on," John points out. He tells them they recently had a heart attack and that he thinks he's having another one. John says he doesn't buy it, but Jane points out they have to keep him alive. She removes the hood. "Looks like your breathing's fine, now," she notes. They arrive at the safe house and Toby asks if it's where they're staying and how long they're there for. John tells him it is and to stop asking questions. As he asks that they untie his hands, a black clad man appears outside. Jane shoots and kills him, but there is another man on the roof. Another emerges from the house itself. Shooting back, Jane tells John to get them out of there. They take off, Jane asking Toby who the guys were and why they were after him. "Hard to say," he tells her as two cars appear behind them. They ram them and John tells Jane he's going to try and shake them. Following an extensive car chase, they manage to shake their pursuers, only to find themselves blocked by a wedding crowd. John tries to get them to move by speaking in Italian, but Jane simply fires a shot in the air, clearing the way. "That works too," notes John. It, however, also attracts their pursuers, resulting in a protracted gun battle. Jane shouts at John get Toby, who orders him out of the car, telling him that they need him alive. Toby complains that it's killing his knees, but as they continue to be shot at, John tells him they need to move a little faster.

    Property acquisition

They take cover in a building, Toby saying that he has to take a leak. "Not right now, you don't," John tells him. As they prepare to cover in a building, they are forced to stop to have Toby do deep breathing. They continue, trading gunfire as they proceed out the building and down a path. They encounter two local police officers and Jane tells them that they're CIA. "No problem," she tells them, only for them to be taken out by their pursuers. They continue, Toby protesting that he can't do more stairs, but Jane tells him he can. They end up in a local household and finally arrive at a canoe. The driver does not want to let them on, but Jane pretends to be pregnant. This, plus the offer a large amount of money from John gets them on. They finally arrive at the other side of the lake at a beautiful home. "Whose house is this?" asks Jane and Toby comments that if it's a safe house, he hopes it's safer than the last one. "How do you know the code?" asks Jane as John enters it. She tells him she's seasick from the boat ride, nothing that he hasn't answered her. He tells her he knows the code because it's their house. She laughs, but he raises his hands, telling her he bought it, that he got them a house. She asks if he's joking, but he tells her he's not and that it's a good thing, since they have a safe place nobody knows. He says they got for a steal, that it looks even better than the pictures. Jane pulls John aside, asking if she can talk to him for a second. She asks if he really bought it sight unseen. He says that he saw the pictures at the market and just pulled the trigger. She tells him he was supposed to get grapes. He says it was a surprise, but she can't believe he bought a house without talking about it with her first. Toby says it's none of his business, but that you have to be careful when buying property in a foreign country. He says that even as someone with a lot of money, you still have to be careful how you spend it. Jane agrees she says this all the time. John asks if they're really getting their financial advice from him and Jane says she just wants him to see that it's a big deal. "Don't touch that!" they shout as Toby, as he picks up a stick, John telling him that it's dynamite. He drops it. "Did he just drop a piece of dynamite?" wonders John as Jane says she'll go get Toby changed. Jane contacts Hihi with the information that the safe house was compromised and they relocated. A response comes back: "Standby for transport instructions." "Copy," she replies and another message comes back, asking her if she has a moment to chat. "Of course," she replies, asking if she should grab John. "No, that's okay," comes back the response, then another message, asking if she's happy. "With work?" she asks and the response is "With everything." She replies that she is and that John's a great partner. Another message comes back: "Good. We see you advancing." As John explores outside, Jane receives another message, telling Jane to keep Toby alive until morning, that he is very important to the company. "Copy," she says and the message tells her to keep up the good work. Back inside, Jane helps Toby find a shirt. He tells her that when she held the gun up to him back at the farm, he thought she was angel come to put him out of his misery. She tells him to stay away from the window and he comments that her partner doesn't like him. She says that he doesn't need him to like him, just to protect him. She warns him again to stay away from the windows, that it's not safe. Toby comments that she's nicer that John is and she says that John is nice even to telemarketers, but he's just not John's cup of tea. He tells her he's done some terrible things in his life, but never thrown an old man off a building. She asks just what he's done and he replies that she wouldn't like him anymore if he told her. She asks who says she does. He tells her she likes him a little bit. "Or maybe I'm just good at my job," she says. He tells her his stomach's killing him and she leaves to get him some medicine. However, when she comes back, he won't take it. John calls it ridiculous, saying that if he takes it, he'll give him a cigarette. So Toby does, but John walks away, saying he'll give it to him after dinner. Toby curses.

    Baby talk

At dinner, Toby asks if they know where they are, but John says they'd be there by now if they did. Jane asks just who "they" is, but Toby tells her that it's hard to say, that it could be the Russians, the Saudis, or a small chance it's even the Brits. She asks if he's some kind of evil colonizer. John suggests they just eat. Jane asks how evil he is on a scale of Mark Zuckerberg to Hitler. He replies that he's not Hitler evil, then claims Hitler is still alive, continuing with a joke with a punchline involving Hitler and the Jews. He criticizes the food, saying it "tastes like freezer." That evening, Jane continues to watch the outside for anyone who may be trying to find them and helps Toby solve a crossword puzzle. Seeing John nuzzling up to Jane, he calls it a "twisted honeymoon" and complains about being bored. He demands John give him his cigarettes, but John tells him they're not good for him and then tells him he can't smoke in the house and can't go outside. When Toby swears, John tells him that they don't have any cigarettes, that he lied about it to get him to take the medicine. He starts destroying property and John pulls a gun, demanding that he sit. "Shoot me!" shouts Toby, and Jane takes the gun, telling him to stop. Toby sobs, then says he's going to bed, that this place sucks. "What?" asks John as Jane stares at him. She tells him he's a lot nicer than this, that it's something she looks up to. He tells her he'll go check on Toby. Jane receives a set of coordinates from Hihi, instructing them to take a boat and that a seaplane will pick up upon arrival. She asks if she should message when they leave. "How will you know when we get there?" she asks. "We will know" comes the response. "Have you found this mission challenging?" She replies that it hasn't been the easiest, but that's to be expected. "And John?" comes the response. She replies that sometimes she and John handle things differently, but they're making do. "Yes. John is your partner," agrees Hihi. That night, they sit and talk outside after Toby has gone to sleep. John tells her that Toby has been exhausting, but they got one good thing out of him. He holds up a cigarette. She giggles, saying that she wants to smoke it. He lights it for her. He asks if he thinks they ruined the wedding and she says that they may have ruined their lives. He asks if she thinks she'll ever do that, have a wedding. She tells him she doesn't know, that vows make her uncomfortable. He says he's thought about it too and what bothers him is the public audience. She agrees she would like if it were private, just two people. He asks what theirs would be. She laughs, then says she could vow not to judge him for how often he talks to his mother. They both laugh and she continues that she wants him to vow that he would take allergy medicine for her cat, Max. "Even when Max dies?" he asks and she says that he'll never die. He tells her he vows to never make her feel delusional for thinking her cat's never going to die and to never kill her. She says she can't tell if he's joking and she likes that. They kiss. They start making out and he tells her that he wants to put a baby in her. Seeing her disturbed look, he asks if it was creepy.
