The Skeleton Coast is the northern part of the Atlantic coast of Namibia. Immediately south of Angola, it stretches from the Kunene River to the Swakop River, although the name is sometimes used to describe the entire Namib Desert coast.

- Henties Bay. Located an hour’s drive north of Swakopmund, Henties Bay is the only real town on the Skeleton Coast. It is a natural stop for travelers heading north and is especially popular with anglers.
- Cape Cross Seal Colony. 40 miles/60 kilometers north of Henties Bay lies the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, a protected headland that provides a home for the largest breeding colony of Cape fur seals in the world.
- Desert-Adapted Wildlife. Despite the Skeleton Coast’s seemingly inhospitable environment, wildlife manages to thrive here. Lodges like the Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp offer 4x4 game drives through the dunes and to nearby oases, to which animals are drawn by the irresistible scent of water.
- Ill-Fated Shipwrecks. The Skeleton Coast is patterned with the bones of ships that have fallen foul of its submerged reefs and misleading fog. Of these, the most famous wrecks are probably those of the Dunedin Star and the Eduard Bohlen.
The world’s largest ship cemetary. The so called Skeleton Coast is a 40 km wide and 500 km long coastal stretch in Namibia, a hostile but fascinating area. Here the cold and unpredictable Benguela Current of the Atlantic Ocean clashes with the dune and desert landscape of north-western Namibia.
