Jan 15, 2021 · Providence Public Library (PPL) and the Rhode Island Historical Society (RIHS) have announced that the first batch of Rhode Island’s historic newspapers digitized through a National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) grant are now freely available for researchers via the Library of Congress’ Chronicling America site.
The collection contains all known RI newspapers from 1732 to 2010, from Westerly to Woonsocket. The newspapers can be accessed on-site with the use of microfilm reader machines. Check the catalog for individual titles.
