Vics prominence in bluegrass exploded when he joined Bill Monroe in 1967, though he had worked previously with both Jimmy Martin and Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper.

I bought "Banjo Nashville" on vinyl when it first came out and I didn't really like the drums and electric guitar but I wore that LP out listening to it because the banjo picking was so good. I loved his intros on Pony Express and El Combanchero (real slow so you could hear what he was doing.)
