The Yavuz Selim Mosque, also known as the Selim I Mosque and the Yavuz Sultan Selim Mosque ( Turkish: Yavuz Selim Camii) is a 16th-century Ottoman imperial mosque located at the top of the 5th hill of Istanbul, Turkey, in the neighborhood of Çukurbostan, overlooking the Golden Horn.

The mosque, completed in 1522, is a square of around 25 metres surmounted by a daringly shallow dome, its apex floating some 30 metres above the floor, supported by smoothly curving pendentives (the triangular gaps between the arches).

The mosque is b uilt on a terrace on the crest of one of Istanbul’s seven hills, in the neighbourbood of Çukurbostan. The views from the northeast of the complex, looking out over the Golden Horn, are magnificent. The mosque architect was called Alaüddin. The famous Mimar Sinan designed one of the tombs in the garden.
The mosque, with its cemetery, occupies the southeast end of the precinct and is composed of a single-domed prayer hall preceded by a large, arcaded courtyard and flanked by square hospice wings. The mosque courtyard is entered from a main portal facing northwest, and two side portals.
Its terrace has panoramic views over the Golden Horn (the mosque you see on the right is Sülemaniye Mosque) and is a popular picnic and relaxation spot. Selim's türbe (tomb) is in the garden behind the mosque. The mosque is located in the fascinating Çarşamba district, one of the city's most conservative enclaves.
