Starting high in the peaks of Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park along the Continental Divide, the river flows down a rocky canyon through the Roosevelt National Forest, dropping 7,000 feet in elevation along the way.
River Hill is a popular campground on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Situated in a meadow surrounded by willows, campers come here to fish for trout, hunt and take in the beautiful views of the forested hills and rock bluffs. River kayaking and fishing are also popular activities, and the Rio Grande Reservoir is just a couple miles away.

Campground Camping. You may spot moose along the Laramie River Road that leads to this campground. Just seven miles off of State Highway 14, you can often find open campsites Friday morning.
Ruby Mountain - Reservation Only. Ruby Mountain is one of the most popular campground sites, especially for private boaters. Along with the excellent river access, several trails in the area lead into the backcountry. The campground falls adjacent to the Browns Canyon National Monument trailhead.
