The basic Zenith-Stromberg, as used on Triumphs in the mid-’60s. for example, is actually simpler and more reliable than the SU carburetor it replaced. While later Z-S models used a large number and variety of “add on” features to meet our pollution control requirements, the basic “heart” of these carburetors remained relatively simple.
The 1967-1975 Jaguar E-type with the 4.2 engine were factory-fitted with a pair of Zenith-Stromberg carbs. These were emission-calibrated to meet U.S. air-quality standards. The loss of horsepower was offset by having a cleaner-running engine. (Note: 1971-1975 Jaguar V12 engines used two pairs of Z-Stroms, which flanked both sides of the engine.)

In my experience the Zenith Stromberg CD 175 with automatic choke has been very reliable. They do need to be working correctly and the choke calibrated.
