The Ruhr University Bochum (German: Ruhr-Universität Bochum, RUB) is a public research university located in the southern hills of the central Ruhr area, Bochum, Germany. It was founded in 1962 as the first new public university in Germany after World War II. Instruction began in 1965.

Ruhr University Bochum is a university open to the world and internationally connected. Internationalization is anchored in its mission statement "Built to change" and embedded as a strategic, cross-cutting topic in all areas of the university.
Ruhr University Bochum mainly offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes that build on each other. Exceptions are the study programmes offered by the medical, law and, in part, the two theological faculties, which conclude with a state or ecclesiastical examination.
