The Robins Nature Center at Maymont is a free, kid-friendly attraction on Shields Lake Drive. It's also home to an active sculpture, named River Reach, which simulates the microscopic creatures that live in the James River.
Maymont has rolling fields with ancient trees, situated on a high bluff on the north bank of the James River with river vistas. It contains, a formal Japanese garden, rose garden, Richmond's unofficial zoo, historic carriages, a new contemporary nature center building, and the Dooley Mansion, both open to the public.
