It’s free to park at nearly all lots along the trail, unless of course you opt to park in a commercial garage in Old Town Alexandria, for example.
The Mount Vernon Trail runs between US-29 & Lynn St at the NW corner of Gateway Park in Rosslyn and George Washington’s Mount Vernon, in Mount Vernon, Virginia. Parking is available in Mount Vernon. The region’s Metro and commuter rail provides convenient transit access to the trail.

Located just across the river from Downtown Washington D.C. is a great multi-use recreation trail. Nearly 18 miles long, the Mount Vernon Trail follows the Potomac's Virginia shoreline from Theodore Roosevelt Island (near Rossyln, Va) to George Washington's Estate located at Mount Vernon. The Mount Vernon Trail is a big favorite of area cyclists.
If you are starting from Mount Vernon, there is plenty of parking there. Dogs are allowed from T. R. Island to Mount Vernon. Be sure to look at the Navy and Marine Memorial located between D.C. & Alexandria.
Parking and Trail Access. Parking is available at several points along the trail and can be accessed via the George Washington Memorial Parkway and stops on the Washington, D.C. Metro's Blue and Orange lines.
