    Max Greenfield on playing Gabriel

Playing a Hollywood junkie named Gabriel, Greenfield has a scene with the Addiction Demon and AHS veteran Sarah Paulson that Ryan Murphy has described as "the most disturbing scene" in the history of the show. "There was a moment of pause, and then I was like, 'Okay. Let’s do it,'" Greenfield said about first reading the script. "It’s exciting to be the 'most' of anything. We really went for it. I think for what Ryan [Murphy] was trying to say with the scene and what he was trying to portray [was about] the kind of hold that addiction can have on a human being. He wanted it to be graphic, and I think he wanted it to be intense and to shock people. I haven’t seen it, but I assume since I was there when we filmed it, it sure felt like that when we filmed it. So I hope that it portrays that kind of terror and that hold that it has over people." For the role, Greenfield had to shed a lot of weight. "Ryan [Murphy] said I lost 30 pounds, which I appreciated. I would like to stick [with] that, but I don't know if I lost that much," he said. "I think at my lightest, I dropped like 24, 25. I was so happy to gain it back. What a treat!" According to Greenfield, it wasn't the weight loss regimen that was the hard part.Rather, it was gaining it back that proved to be a challenge.
