The site of the Emeryville Shellmound was within the 95.48-acre Plot No.7 which was sold to Louis Brugierre in late 1853. In early 1855. Brugierre sold the land to John McHenry. a judge in San Francisco. McHenry had a new house erected on one of the smaller. lower shellmounds to the southeast of the large mound.
