Jan 25, 2024 · Head Start is a federally funded school readiness program for children, prenatal to age 5. Head Start provides services to eligible children and families in the areas of early learning, health, and family well-being, while engaging parents and guardians as partners, every step of the way.
Pregnant Mothers and children from birth to age five who are from families with incomes below the poverty level guidelines are eligible for Head Start and Early Head Start services. Homeless children and families, and families receiving public assistance such as TANF or SSI are also eligible.
The Early Head Start Child Care-Partnerships Program enhances and supports early learning settings to provide comprehensive and continuous services. It increases access to high-quality, full-day, full-year child care, including family child care, for low-income working families.

The Goalsare broad statements of expectations for children’s learning and development. The goals describe broad skills, behaviors, and concepts within a sub-domain that are important for success in school. These are sometimes referred to as standards in state early learning guidelines.
The Developmental Progressionsdescribe the skills, behaviors, and concepts that children will demonstrate as they progress towards a given goal within an age period. The term “emerging” is used for the youngest infant age group when specific skills, behaviors, or concepts have not yet emerged or are not yet observable.
Indicatorsare identified for each goal for children 36 months and 60 months of age.
