- Discover what life was like onboard Cutty Sark. If you arrive by boat, the first thing you’ll see is the breathtakingly beautiful Cutty Sark. This is one of the major Greenwich attractions.
- Journey through space and time at the Royal Observatory. The Royal Observatory was built back in the 17th century on the site of the crumbling Greenwich Castle.
- Marvel at the Painted Hall inside the Old Royal Naval College. Designed by Christopher Wren, one of the most highly acclaimed English architects of all time, the Old Royal Naval College is a sight to behold.
- Visit the National Maritime Museum. One of the many free things to see in Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum offers a fascinating journey through Great Britain’s maritime history.
- Greenwich market. Fabulous food stalls, awesome arts and crafts stalls plus a whole heap of traditional fare (pie and mash anyone?). Greenwich market has it all and is one of the most historic markets in the country.
- Greenwich Royal Observatory. High on the hill in Greenwich Park, the Greenwich Royal Observatory is where time started (sort of!) – and you can stand on the historic prime meridian of the world (where GMT actually begins).
- The Cutty Sark / National Maritime Museum. Time for tea! Well, kind of – The Cutty Sark stands proud in the heart of Greenwich, acting as a rather fitting focal point.
- Greenwich Park. Could these be the best views in London? Judging by the sheer number of people who visit and enjoy Greenwich Park every day, we sure think so!
- Royal Greenwich Observatory. The biggest attraction by far in Greenwich is the Royal Greenwich Observatory. King Charles II commissioned the Royal Observatory in Greenwich in 1675.
- Peter Harrison Planetarium. Located on the Royal Observatory grounds, the Peter Harrison Planetarium offers planetarium shows, science lessons for kids, and even concerts and astronomy courses.
- Prime Meridian. If you plan to visit (and pay for admission to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich), be sure not to miss the Prime Meridian marker in the main plaza.
- Cutty Sark. As I mentioned above, you disembark the DLR at “Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich” – but what exactly does that mean? Once you step out of the DLR station and make your way into town, you’ll see the masts of the Cutty Sark tower over Greenwich.
