Oct 8, 2017 · Pittman Center was founded by Dr. John S. Burnett, a Methodist minister and educator who had long dreamed of establishing an educational and medical facility in one of the most isolated sections of East Tennessee.
Pittman Center. This small town outside Gatlinburg covers six square miles and has a population of only 500, but its treasures are plentiful. Its first settler arrived in 1784, but the town remained cut off from the world due to rough topography and poor roads for over 100 years.
