With an estimated twelve million visitors each year, Barcelona is one of the best-known and most visited cities in Europe. But what is Barcelona famous for? Barcelona is famous for its outstanding football team, stunning architecture, lively nightlife, sandy beaches, and world-class cuisine.
- The Capital of Catalonia. Barcelona, the vibrant and lively capital of Catalonia, is one of those cities that truly has a bit of everything on offer. As you wander through its bustling streets, you’ll find yourself immersed in a unique blend of history, culture, and the undeniable charm of Mediterranean living.
- Both Catalan and Spanish Speakers. You know what’s really cool about Barcelona? It’s a city where two languages coexist harmoniously, giving it a distinct linguistic flavor.
- Antoni Gaudí. If there’s one name that goes hand-in-hand with Barcelona, it’s Antoni Gaudí. This visionary architect left an indelible mark on the city with his awe-inspiring designs, which are nothing short of masterpieces.
- Sagrada Familia. No tour of the city of Barcelona would be complete without marveling at Gaudí’s most iconic work, the Sagrada Familia. This breathtaking basilica has been under construction since 1882 and is still a work in progress, with completion slated for 2026.

- Casa Amatller. Located to the left of Casa Batlló is Casa Amatller, another unique building in Barcelona. This building was designed for the chocolatier Antoni Amatller.
- Visit the Sagrada Família. Almost every city has at least one landmark that you simply can’t miss, and the Sagrada Família is Barcelona’s. Antoni Gaudí’s magnificent masterpiece has been under construction for more than 130 years, and it’s still not finished.
- See more of Gaudí’s designs. The Sagrada Família may be the most famous of Gaudí’s buildings, but all his wonderful, whimsical designs are worth visiting.
- Wander through the Gothic Quarter. Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is the oldest and most atmospheric part of the city. Characterized by small alleyways, hidden plazas and historic buildings, it lies to the east of La Rambla, the famous pedestrian street that runs through the center of the old town.
