In the 1950s he began appearing on television shows, including Inner Sanctum, Studio One, and Playhouse 90. Klugman made his feature film debut in Grubstake (1952) and later appeared in the crime drama Time Table (1956).

Starting his acting career in 1949, Jack Klugman made his stage debut in the play ‘Stevedore’ at the Equity Liberty theatre in New York. He soon moved into television and films as well. In 1950, he was offered a minor role in the play ‘Mr. Roberts’ at Boston’s Colonial Theatre.
He was one of the pioneers of television acting in the 1950s, and is best remembered for his 1970s TV work as Oscar Madison on The Odd Couple (1970) and as the medical examiner on Quincy, M.E. (1976).

Klugman had battled throat cancer in the late 1980s, lost his voice as a result and trained himself to speak again. The cause of death was not specified.
