Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary (MSHR) is a Roman Catholic apostolic congregation of women religious founded by Bishop Joseph Shanahan CSSp (Irish born bishop in Nigeria) on 7 March 1924, in Killeshandra, County Cavan, Ireland. They are sometimes referred to as the Killeshandra Nuns.
The Sisters of the Rosary Convent & Catholic School was built over a 50-year period beginning in 1887. The convent includes an orphanage for approximately 20 girls, for which the Jerusalem Foundation has periodically provided support for the purchase of equipment.
Built in 1967, Dominican Convent is home to over 100 Sister residents and provides the home base for the congregation’s life and mission as joyful women of prayer and compassion who proclaim the Reign of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation. Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel.
Even though there was a small chapel in the convent, it was only used by the nuns. Before the convent was built (around 1950-1952, I believe ), the Sisters lived at St. Vincent Orphanage on Main Street, about three blocks west of the Holy Rosary “campus”.
