Apr 10, 2017 · Rhino Records was born in October 1973, when Richard Foos opened a store on Westwood Boulevard, a few blocks south of UCLA. Harold Bronson began working at the store as an employee. A lack of traffic in the early days gave Foos and Bronson time to brainstorm about promotions.
Rhino started as a record store in 1973, but by the ’80s had already gained a reputation for excellent quality reissues. From 1986-1992, they had a distribution deal with Capitol Records. This was the period when I first discovered them as I completed my Monkees discography with the help of their reissued vinyl.
