The 17th Academy Awards were held on March 15, 1945 at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, honoring the films of 1944. This was the first time the complete awards ceremony was broadcast nationally, on the Blue Network (later ABC Radio ).
Comedian Jack Benny hosted the 16th Annual Academy Awards which took place at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Thursday, March 2, 1944. Thw two big winners of the night were The Song of Bernadette with four wins and Casablanca with three including Best Picture.
