Catherine was the only daughter and second child of the Duke Henry I of Brunswick-Lüneburg († 1416) from his first marriage to Sophie († June 1400), daughter of Duke Wartislaw VI of Pomerania.
She was a daughter of Magnus II, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Catherine of Anhalt-Bernburg, daughter of Bernhard III, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg. Through her mother, she was the great-great-granddaughter of King Abel of Denmark.
She married Gerhard VI Count of Holstein-Rendsburg in 1395. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. She died on 3 April 1423, in Wolfenbüttel, Brunswick, Germany, at the age of 56, and was buried in Hanover, Prussia, Germany.

Apr 28, 2022 · Catherine was a daughter of the Duke Henry IV of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1463–1514) from his marriage to Catherine of Pomerania (1465–1526), daughter of the Duke Erich II of Pomerania. She married on 20 November 1509 in Wolfenbüttel Duke Magnus I of Saxe-Lauenburg (1470–1543).

Her mother early favoured a match between one of her children and a member of her English family, and when her nephew Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany visited Brunswick in June 1781, she lamented the fact that Caroline, because of her age, could not be present very often.
She had three sons and two daughters: Ingeborg of Holstein (1396–1465), Abbess at Vadstena Abbey 1447-1452 and 1457–1465.
