Apr 7, 2024 · Biographical Information []. In 1995, pitcher Hideo Nomo became the second Japanese to play in the major leagues (Masanori Murakami was the first). He had been a star in Nippon Pro Baseball and was an immediate hit with the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 13-6 as a rookie in the USA, winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award and leading the league in strikeouts.
