Stuart Rosenberg was born in Brooklyn, NY to Sara and David Rosenberg. After high school, he was accepted at New York University, where he studied Irish literature. During this time, he met his future wife, Margot Pohoryles, and while enrolled as a graduate student, he took on work as both a student teacher and as an apprentice film editor.
