The towers are 230 feet high and weigh 32,000 tons each. It cost about $1.8 million (which would amount to $30.6 million today) and took 10 years to build.
This is truly a historic and iconic bridge over the east channel of the Ohio River from downtown Wheeling to Wheeling Island. Built in the mid 1800s. Unfortunately as of the spring of 2021, it was closed because of structural damage caused by a vehicle. Hope it reopens. It is fun to drive across.
