Jun 15, 2011 · To increase insight into the impact of communicable diseases on population health in Europe and to support health policy-making, ECDC is developing a methodology for measuring the burden of communicable diseases in the European Union Member States and European Economic Area (EEA)/European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries.
The first agreement establishing the European Economic Community was signed in 1957 by six countries: Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Denmark, Ireland, and the United Kingdom joined in 1973, Greece in 1981, Spain and Portugal in 1986. In subsequent years many other countries joined the Union.

In 1972 Denmark, Ireland, and the United Kingdom joined.
