Aug 3, 2012 · Even before the film was released in theaters, Len Wiseman's Total Recall created loads of confusion among fans of Paul Verhoeven's 1990 action film as well as Philip K. Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.”
While that movie got delayed in pre-production, Schwarzenegger had arranged to appear in Total Recall for Carolco, and pushed producer Mario Kassar to hire Verhoeven as director. Verhoeven said that is was only Schwarzenegger's enthusiasm for the project that convinced him to pass on Black Rain and do Total Recall instead.
