The 36-foot monument was designed by Odhise Paskali. It was installed at Skanderbeg Square in 1968 on the 500th anniversary of Skanderbeg's death. The monument was erected in place of a statue of Joseph Stalin, facing the square and all of its cultural sites like the National Museum, the Clock Tower, Et'hem Bey Mosque and the Palace of Culture.
