Who was Apollos? According to the book of Acts, Apollos was an influential teacher and leader who advanced the gospel of Jesus in the early Christian church. The writer of Acts, Luke, describes him as a Jew, native to Alexandria, Egypt, who journeyed to Ephesus for unclear reasons (Acts 18:24).

Whether Apollos belonged to the class of thinkers like Philo or not is, of course, a matter of conjecture. But it is learned from Paul's own words (I Cor. i. 10) that while working on the same lines as Paul, Apollos differed essentially from him in his teachings.
