What his Mowgli adaptation absolutely nailed was that Kaa isn't Mowgli's enemy but his friend. I don't understand other adaptations' obsession of making Kaa into a villain who just wants to eat Mowgli. Serkis's adaptation was much closer in tone and atmosphere to Rudyard Kipling's original than perhaps any other adaptation.
