Dedham (/ ˈ d ɛ d ə m / DED-əm) is a town in, and the county seat of, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Located on Boston's southwestern border, the population was 25,364 at the 2020 census. First settled by English colonists in 1635 and incorporated in 1636, Dedham established the first public school in America in 1643.
Oct 18, 2022 · Dedham is the home of the oldest-surviving timber-frame house in North America to be verified by dendrochronological testing. This incredible slice of history was built around 1637 by the Puritan settler, Jonathan Fairbanks (1594-1668), who had arrived in Massachusetts in 1633.

The Dedham Village Historic District is a historic district encompassing the historic center of Dedham, Massachusetts. Its principal focus is a stretch of High Street between Bridge and Ames Streets; it extends south along Bridge Street to Haven Street, as well as along Ames and Court Streets, and small streets adjacent.
In 1793, Dedham was selected as the shire town for the new County of Norfolk, and an influx of lawyers, politicians, and people on county business forced the town to abandon its traditional insularity and its habitual distrust of newcomers.
