Use the online catalog to search the Library's collections by keyword or browse materials by subject, title, author & more. While much of our content is available in digital format, a majority of the collections have not yet been digitized.
The Library’s online collections are extensive, but they do have limits, and are strongest in the nineteenth and early part of the twentieth century. Use the search box at the top of the Library of Congress home page. A few tips: Before starting your search take a moment to make a list of possible search terms.
To enter a Browse search: Select a Browse search type from the drop-down menu options. Enter one or more search words or phrases in the Browse search box. Depending on the Browse option you select, your search terms may need to be entered in exact order, beginning with the left-most word.

Note: When on a LOC.gov search page, if you select the “All Items" filter on the top left, then your search will also include catalog records for items held by the Library but not available online.
