- Giacomo da Lentini is the founder of Sonnet. He was the head of Sicilian School under Emperor Frederick II. He wrote almost 250 sonnets. Petrarch constituted Sonnet in the 14th century as a major form of Love poetry. Later France, Spain and England adopted it in the 16th century and Germany in the 17th century.
