May 14, 2024 · The WD external hard drive not showing up is a situation where your Western Digital external HDD is physically connected to your computer but not recognized by your OS in File Explorer. A corrupt USB driver, USB port issues, partition issues, etc can cause it.
Basic situation: trying to reinstall windows 98 (SE) on old hardware, new hard drive is 400gb but my comp's BIOS can't handle it (Win98 could with a patch but since the BIOS can't, it doesn't matter). I see guides say that I should use SeaTools or some other program to change something so that the BIOS actually detects this drive as >137gb.

May 18, 2024 · So try Hot Plugging the drives using a SATA cable while your PC is running, or better yet an eSATA cable, and see if they spin up. If the drives don't even spin up when plugged in, then I would say it was a WD problem. If the drives do spin up, then an ASUS problem. Either way, WD and ASUS should be doing more to help.
