Retribution for the Dead is an EP by the American death metal band Autopsy, released by Peaceville Records. It features two songs which were re-recorded for the Mental Funeral album - the title song is exclusive to this EP.
May 28, 2021 · The title song Retribution for the Dead has one of the most blatantly ripped off early Black Sabbath riffs I've heard, besides coming from a traditional doom band. It is just on the initial riff, and then moves onto Autopsy's own signature death-doom process.

Along with fellow Bay Area band Possessed and Reifert's previous group Death, Autopsy have been considered a pioneering band in the death metal genre. Early bands such as Entombed, Dismember, Gorefest, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse and Deicide have all credited Autopsy as an influence in their sound.
"Retribution for the Dead" is the defining moment of Autopsy's career. No exaggeration. Bear in mind that these three songs were recorded/released nearly two years after the band's debut album ("Severed Survival"), and mere months before their second ("Mental Funeral").
