Feb 25, 2012 · I bought this CD after hearing Mark Anthony's cover of Che Che Cole and traced that back to Willie Colon. Willie Colon is amazing. His music is like a deep dive into first class salsa music. The horn, string and vocal arrangements are stunning. I am used to hearing horns and strings like that in black soul music and roots Brazilian music.

Despite initial criticism, Colón's album El Malo was one of the first to feature the "New York Sound" that sparked a renewed interest in Latin music during the 1970s.
