The Nightingale-Bamford School. The Nightingale-Bamford School is an independent all-female university-preparatory school founded in 1920 by Frances Nicolau Nightingale and Maya Stevens Bamford. [2] Located in Manhattan on the Upper East Side, [3] Nightingale-Bamford is a member of the New York Interschool consortium.
The school they envisioned combined the best of both founders: high academic standards within a nurturing environment in which the whole child, the heart as well as the mind, would flourish. Miss Nightingale led the school from 1920-1939, followed by Miss Bamford until 1947.
