He had recently celebrated his 98th birthday. Cohen was born to Lena (Goodwin) and Israel Cohen on February 26, 1924, in Worcester, MA.

Coming Home is a novel by the American writer Lester Cohen (1901–1963) set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It tells the story of Joe and Stella. He is back from serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, and together with Stella and their baby, they battle against a steel tycoon, a ward heeler, and a corrupt police force in America's steel city.
Lester Cohen was born in the housing projects of Newark, New Jersey and raised in the suburban splendor of eastern Long Island. After attending Rhode Island School of Design for Fine Arts he transferred to New York University to study Filmmaking.
